FAAN TO AVIATION UNIONS, EMBRACE DIALOGUE IN CONCESSION PROCESS

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria {FAAN} has called on aviation unions to embrace dialogue in addressing industrial concerns . Following recent agitation over concessions and salary reviews. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and best practices in airport operation while assuring workers of prompt intervention in their demands.

The call was made in response to a  report which highlighted an alleged 14 day ultimatum issued by aviation unions to the federal government regarding grievances over concession committee deliberation  and the implementation of salary adjustments.

FAAN , in a press statement signed by its director of public affairs and consumers protection , Mrs Obiageli Orah, sought to clarify misconception surrounding the matter. The aviation union, during a  a workers congress held on Tuesday , 25th February , expressed dissatisfaction over the non inclusion of their representatives in ongoing airport concession deliberations.

They also raised concerns about the delay in implementing the consequential adjustment of the new minimum wage , among other issues.

These grievances were presented to the minister of aviation and aerospace development ,Festus Keyamo, during an interactive session with the unions  on Friday , 28th February 2025 in Lagos. Responding to the concerns , Keyamo directed the immediate inclusion of union representatives in the concession committee to foster transparency.

He emphasized the need for unions to have full access to relevant information as the  concession process progresses . Additionally, the minister assured union leaders that he would personally  intervein to ensured the swift implementation of the new salary review for FAAN staff, reinforcing the government commitment to workers’ welfare.

In its statement , FAAN reiterate its its dedication to its core values and assured aviation unions of continued engagement in a cordial and constructive manner.  FAAN also reassured air travelers of its commitment to maintaining world class airport operations, in line with global best practices. The agency affirmed that it would continue working closely with the minister of aviation and aerospace development to ensure smooth and efficient management of airport services across the country.
