The impeachment of the former deputy governor of Edo state, Comrade Philip Shaiubu on Monday 8th April, 2024, is still generating reaction in the state.
Over the weekend, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE’S STANDARD, a legal luminary and one time state publicity Secretary of Nigeria Bar association, Bemin branch, Barr. Sam Abaslim stated that, the issues involved are not on the Constitutionality or otherwise of the process but on the inevitability of the exercise.
According to the legal expert, “From the antecedents of the emerging frosty relationship between the Governor and Philip Shaibu, it was obvious that the process of the impeachment was a matter of when it will take place.Yet, Philip Shaibu carried on in propelling and provoking the issues that would eventually necessitate the process as if, he was a Lord over every situation.
That was very provocative.”
Barr. Abaslim further said that he ought to have known the direct consequences of his brazen steps against the interests and stands of his boss.
“What he got finally in the impeachment was the products of his own undoing, lack of tack and displays of vile arrogance of standing against his boss.”
